Hitchin has an excellent range of shops, many of which have been in the town for a long time and become part if its rich history.
The town is famous for its traditional open market which is the largest in the Home Counties. The market has been in the town for over 500 years and is open every Tuesday and Saturday. There is also an antique market every Friday which is always worth a browse.
